Only in the North would someone go paddling with a shovel instead of a paddle. The purpose: a ski trip, of course. Nelson Rocha and Pete Goodier have set off in search of elusive powder skiing in the Gwaii Haanas National Park. On this lake last spring, the water rose eight inches but remained crystal clear. They paddled around on top of small trees, looking for a campsite, when this photo was taken. The rain was coming down in buckets, photographer Steve Ogle remembers “for what seemed like eternity, but the scenery was nice.”
